O National Anti-Bullying Centre (ABC) ) situa-se no Instituto de Educação da Dublin City University. O ABC é um centro de investigação nacional que leva a cabo pesquisas na temática do bullying na escola e no local de trabalho. Desde a sua fundação no Trinity College há 21 anos, o ABC liderou o campo de investigação do bullying na escola e no local de trabalho na Irlanda e é um centro de excelência reconhecido internacionalmente na área do bullying, que ocupa um papel global único ao fornecer recursos e formação para aqueles que desejam abordar o bullying na escola e no local de trabalho, combinando um centro de recursos de aprendizagem, uma linha de apoio e um serviço de aconselhamento, com dedicação à investigação. Recebeu um financiamento substancial da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, do Department of Education and Skills, da Health & Safety Authority, do Irish Research Council e da União Europeia para projectos de investigação na área do bullying escolar e da violência. O Centro mantém inúmeras parcerias estratégicas internacionais, incluindo centros de investigação no Canadá, Suíça, Austrália, EUA, Finlândia e Noruega (CORE-Net: www.uis.no/core-net/).

The centre provides:

  • Up to date scientific information and resource material to professionals, research students, media and lay people, e.g. TV series “The ABC of Bullying”

  • International Research Conferences with internationally recognised experts for the dissemination of up to date research and practice to professionals, researchers, practitioners and the general public.

  • Workshops of one/two days duration in the public and private sector for management and other employees on Dealing with Workplace Bullying; information given is based on the results of on-going quantitative and qualitative research by the Centre, and findings by other researchers in the area.

  • Reports and recommendations for organisations, including assistance in the development of policies, independent investigations into allegations of bullying for the public and private sector, mediation service between recipients and alleged perpetrators of negative behaviours, independent psychological assessments used in the legal resolution of allegations of bullying and harassment; expert witness in the High Court and at Employment Appeals Tribunals.

  • Over the last 5 years the ABC has participated in more than 15 EU-funded research projects on bullying and cyberbullying prevention (more details can be found in the organizations’ website: www.dcu.ie/abc ).
